2017 Graduated from Arts University Bournemouth with a 2:1 in Graphic Design

2018-2019 | PICS CGI
I joined PICS in May 2018 for a two-week work experience, which quickly turned into a full-time opportunity. Initially brought on as a junior team member, I assisted with basic retouching and the editing of in-house showreels. However, I quickly advanced into the role of Junior CG Artist and Junior Retoucher, learning from some of the industry's best.

My responsibilities included sourcing and booking equipment, coordinating props, and art directing multiple fast-food shoots for both static imagery and motion content. These were highly technical productions, including photogrammetry shoots utilizing Phase One IQ3, Canon 5D, and Canon 600D cameras. Additionally, I filmed and directed a Ted Baker Instagram sequence, experimenting with a blend of CGI and live-action film.

2021 - Freelance Designer. Working with clients such as Twickenham Studios, UNIT and some smaller businesses such as Sardina Food and Wine and Red7.

Apr 2021 - Jun 2022. I joined Bubble TV as a Runner, but within a few weeks, I transitioned into the VFX department, where I began learning Autodesk Flame. Under the guidance of some of the industry's top Flame operators, I discovered my passion for moving imagery. Leveraging my retouching skills, I quickly advanced in compositing and clean-up, further refining my expertise in visual effects.

Jun 2022 - July 2023 I joined Untold Studios as a Online Editor / Junior Flame Artist.

July 2023 - July 2024. I joined CHEAT as a full-time VFX artist, working under the guidance of Tim Mellem. This is where my passion for beauty work truly flourished, particularly while working with one of our main clients, Charlotte Tilbury. In July last year, CHEAT merged with Harbor Picture Company, where I have continued to develop my skills and expertise ever since.

Little Black Book Interview

LBB> Is there a piece of technology or software that’s particularly exciting you in VFX? Why?
Jack> A significant hurdle in achieving realism and fluidity is often attributed to poor lighting. The advent of real-time rendering and LED backdrops marks a departure from the era of green screens and subpar lighting. Achieving on-set accuracy is paramount in film and TV production. When confronted with a vast green screen and a foreground performance, directors and cinematographers grapple with visualising the seamless integration of actors into the envisioned world. The transformative capabilities of contemporary technology, however, bring us closer to an immediate and lifelike on-set experience. This, in turn, significantly influences the post-production process, shaping the meticulous art of precisely compositing these elements to perfection.

In my free time, I immerse myself in writing and developing ideas for short stories and music videos, drawing inspiration from the world around me and the visual storytelling techniques I’ve honed in my career. I love experimenting with narrative structures, mood, and aesthetics, always striving to create compelling and emotionally resonant work.

Beyond writing, I am deeply passionate about painting and photography, using both as outlets for self-expression and creative exploration. Whether capturing a fleeting moment through a camera lens or bringing a concept to life on canvas, I am constantly seeking new ways to push artistic boundaries and refine my visual storytelling skills.

These creative pursuits not only fuel my artistic growth but also inspire my work in VFX and post-production, allowing me to bring a unique perspective to every project I take on.
